5 Myths About Life Insurance

1. -  "I have enough coverage."

Be Sure!

CALCULATE your needs or get a QUOTE

70% of U.S. households with children under 18 would have trouble meeting everyday living expenses within a few months if a primary wage earner were to die today.

2.  "I'm covered at work."

Is it enough? What happens if you leave your job?

CALCULATE your needs to find out.

Most people are able to buy an additional four to six times their salary in supplemental coverage over and above what’s provided by their employer.  The rule of thumb is 10-12 times your earnings to be properly insured.

3. "My stay at home spouse doesn't need coverage."

Are you certain?

Just because a spouse doesn't bring in income doesn't me what they do doesn't cost you if they are no longer around. The work that they do would cost money to replace. Child care can be expensive, especially if you have more than one child. Housekeepers can be expensive as well. If your children need someone to take them to sports and other activities, you may have to hire a nanny. A policy can help pay for the services that a stay-at home partner would normally provide.

4. "It costs too much.  I can always buy it later."

Maybe, maybe not.

Most people have no idea that the average cost for a 30 year old male with $250K in coverage is about $12/month.  The younger you are, the lower the price will be to insure you.  When you're younger, you tend to be in better health.  Better health = lower premiums.  As you get older and you start to have health concerns the price goes up exponentially.

5. "Term insurance is always the best deal."

Not necessarily

When was the last time you reviewed your needs?  There are distinct differences between term life insurance and the cost of coverage can become prohibitively high in later years not to mention the investment aspect for those looking to minimize taxes in retirement.
